What Does Manned Guarding Security Actually Mean For Home Owners?

"Physical security", "Manned guarding", or "Residential security" is a frequently used term in the security industry, which involves deploying trained security personnel to safeguard businesses and individuals. But have you ever wondered how the use of physical security can benefit your daily life? In this blog, we'll delve into the benefits of manned guarding and what to look out for when hiring a professional security team.

1. Visual Deterrent

A trained security guard’s visible presence acts as a deterrent to potential wrongdoers. This deterrent signals that the premises are actively monitored and protected. It’s hard to ignore the benefits of having a uniformed security officer on your property. Whether it’s through mobile patrols, static guarding, or access control, they serve as a powerful visual deterrent that is generally much more effective than signs or standalone monitoring.

3. Immediate Response

With security physically on-site, you can rest assured that any security breaches or emergencies will be dealt with instantly. Professional security officers are equipped to assess the situation and take appropriate action. This minimises the impact of threats and ensures the safety of everyone in the vicinity. All SIA licensed security officers are also First Aid trained and can act as first responded although this is not their core responsibility.

5. Property Monitoring and Surveillance

In addition to their physical presence, security guards can also utilise surveillance equipment to monitor your property remotely (CCTV monitoring). With manned guarding and use of technical solutions its becomes easier to detect suspicious activities or breaches.

2. 24/7 Control Room

Security companies can offer you more than just well-trained and uniformed security officers. Our security guards are supported by 24/7 control room who work with the security team and are able to check on the status and welfare of the security guards but can also bring in additional support if an incident occurs or in an emergency situation.

4. Enhanced Safety for Family and Property:

Similar to what’s mentioned in point number 3, security guards play a crucial role in enhancing the safety of your family and property. By monitoring access points, conducting patrols, and implementing access control measures, guards prevent unauthorised entry. This naturally mitigates the risk of theft, burglary, or vandalism. For example, many homeowners with construction work done on their property with valuable equipment hire construction night guards during the silent hours for their peace of mind.

6. Customised Security Solutions:

Manned guarding services can be tailored to suit your unique needs and preferences. Bespoke security services such as Gurkha security services can give you round-the-clock surveillance, periodic patrols, or specialised security timetable.

7. Peace of mind

Knowing that your home is being protected by trained security professionals provides invaluable peace of mind for homeowners. Whether you’re at work, on vacation, or asleep at night, you can rest assured that your property is being safeguarded against potential threats.

What to look for when hiring manned guarding security services

1. SIA License

Every security officer on site should hold a SIA Security Industry Authority) license that validates what type of license they have i.e. Door Supervisor, Security Guarding, CCTV, Close Protection etc. It also shows the date the license will expire. Security guards have to have relevant training every few years with valid First Aid certificate.

3. ACS (Approved Contractor Scheme)

ACS is a voluntary scheme for security companies to join to prove they meet and exceed quality standards and are audited twice a year as a minimum. GSS has been a part of the scheme since 2007 and strives to improve and make changes for the better in the security industry. There are over 11,500 security companies in the UK and as of March 2022, only 838 are in the Approved Contractor Scheme!

This exclusive group represents the best of the best, setting the standard for professionalism and quality in the field.

2. Directly Employed

Security guards should not be self-employed or subcontracted. For example, all security guards are directly employed by GSS. This add in a layer of protection when you are hiring security officers as we do our due diligence when recruiting security guards. This means they are fully vetted, we check their DBS, and Right to Work. We also carry out English language tests and ensure they are fit and suitable for the role.

4. Robust Escalation System

A security guarding escalation system is vital in any security operation. Having a robust escalation system means that any incidents or emergencies are quickly responded to and resolved. A robust escalation system includes not only well-trained security guards on the ground, but also experienced control room operatives who can effectively coordinate and manage the response to any situation. Overall, a well-designed and well-implemented security guarding escalation system is essential for maintaining a safe and secure environment for both employees and visitors.

It is absolutely imperative that everyone in the industry complies with these regulations, as failure to do so is considered a criminal offense.
