What is Martyn’s Law?
Martyn’s Law is named in honour of Martyn Hett, one of the victims of the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing. His mother, Figen Murray, has tirelessly campaigned for stronger safety measures in public venues to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
Martyn’s Law will require venues and public spaces to take proactive steps to mitigate the risk of terrorist attacks—much like how fire safety is now standard practice.
Who Will Be Affected?
Martyn’s Law will apply to premises accessible to the public with a capacity of:
• 100+ people (Standard Tier)
• 800+ people (Enhanced Tier)
This includes entertainment venues, retail outlets, public buildings, places of worship, schools, universities, and security providers operating in such spaces.
Key Requirements Under Martyn’s Law
Depending on the tier, the law will require:
