London Olympics

The 2012 Summer Olympics & Paralympic Games, were held in London, United Kingdom, from July 27 to August 12. These Olympics marked a significant event in the history of the city and were notable for venues, sustainability, legacy, and outstanding performances. Over 10,000 athletes from more than 200 countries participated in the games, competing in a wide range of sports.

Gurkha Security Services (GSS) played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the Olympic Games in collaboration with the renowned security company G4S. Throughout the entire duration of the event, GSS provided comprehensive operations support, starting from the construction phase, during the actual games, and even during the closing ceremonies.

To effectively carry out our responsibilities, GSS deployed a team of 50 highly trained door supervisors who possessed essential qualifications such as Emergency First Aid certification and Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks. These qualifications were particularly important as our team interacted with a diverse range of individuals, including vulnerable people, children, disabled individuals, and the elderly.

The primary duties assigned to our team were to secure the Olympic venue, conduct regular security patrols, enforce access control measures, and issue passes to all visitors entering the Olympic park. By diligently executing these tasks, GSS played a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all participants, spectators, and staff throughout the Olympic Games.

On behalf of G4S Secure Solutions (UK) Limited, we would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Ghurkha Security Services for the professional service and strong support provided by you for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We recognise that: Your organisation has assisted us in the planning, co-ordination and deployment of security personnel; and your contribution has significantly helped G4S in its provision of a safe and secure game.

It was great working with you and your team, and we look forward to the opportunity of working with you again in the future.

Francis Gabriel – Head of the subcontracting team (G4S)
